Locking Rigid Shaft Coupling
thingiverse
The coupling features 1.5-degree tapered threads, ensuring a tight lock onto shafts with diameters of 5 mm for stepper shafts and 8 mm for regular ones. The overall length measures at 25mm. Despite not having installed it in an application, the inventor claims that it grips well, with PTFE tape on the threads reducing friction between coupling and nut threads significantly. As a request, the Autodesk Inventor files are available for download under the file name DoubleScrewCoupling.zip, containing ten related files in total. To increase thread clearance for the nut, the FLUSH constraint in TaperedNutScrew.iam model should be changed, requiring modification of TaperNutBase.ipt to maintain overall length. Printed in PLA, the inventor recommends breaking-in threads with 1-2 layers of PTFE tape before use and using a hobby knife for old tape removal. Alternatively, dish soap can be used as lubricant but could pose a risk of shaft slipping. Installation without lubrication may damage threads. The latest Cura version (13.06.04) is recommended for slicing.
