It seems pretty straightforward what they're designed for. They match up perfectly with the thread and cover the nut and washer snugly. A 1 mm gap at the bottom guarantees the correct preload every time. I secured my i3 aluminum to a MDF plate. The next step will be adding a set of ties, as the z-axis is still feeling a bit unstable.
