The original P-38J Lightning model is now available, featuring improvements such as better cockpit heating, efficient engine cooling, a flat bulletproof windscreen, additional fuel in wings, and increased maneuverability. This aircraft was crucial during combat operations from England in 1943, being the only fighter with range to escort bombers into Germany. The P-38 shined particularly in the Pacific theater, where seven of the top eight USAAF aces flew it. Its long-range even enabled ambushing and shooting down an aircraft carrying Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto on April 18, 1943. As the standard USAAF fighter in the Pacific until WWII's closing months, the P-38J remains a significant model.
