The Lockheed P-38J Lightning, also known as Jewboy, was flown by the 49th Fighter Squadron and 14th Fighter Group during World War II in Italy and the European Theater in 1944. This model, originally created using cinema4D 9.5, features detailed textures for close-up renders. The zip file contains bodypaint textures and standard materials. Inside the scene, you'll find a model with 21 textures, 2 materials, and 1 alphamap. No special plugin is needed to open the scene, which includes Phong shading interpolation/smoothing at 35°. The file contains separate parts for flying and standing versions, but note that the propellor's alpha map in the fly-version must be manually loaded in the material canal/opacity canal. The model has 137,505 polygons and 109,142 vertices across 32 objects, with 25 textures, 1 material, and 1 alpha-map available in obj, lwo, and fbx formats (File Version 2010). The P-38E was the first major production version, followed by the P-38F with pylon racks for bombs or droppable fuel tanks. The G model began production in August 1942, leading to the P-38H with a more powerful engine. The P-38J introduced in August 1943 featured improvements such as better cockpit heating, enhanced cooling, a flat bulletproof windscreen, additional wing fuel, and increased maneuverability. In Europe, the Lightning was the only fighter with the range to escort bombers into Germany. In the Pacific theater, it was the top choice for seven of the top eight USAAF aces. On April 18, 1943, a P-38 ambushed and shot down an aircraft carrying Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the planner of Pearl Harbor and commander of the Imperial Japanese Navy, showcasing its long range capabilities. The P-38 became the standard USAAF fighter in the Pacific theater until the end of WWII.
