To secure Veranda 4x4 solar post caps from Home Depot, I created a simple locking pin that prevents them from detaching from their bases. The original design allows the cap to rotate and lock into place, but it becomes unreliable after exposure to the elements for an extended period. This led to issues with wind and squirrels causing the tops of my post caps to come loose. To address this problem, I installed a locking pin by supergluing it into one of the screw holes at the top of the cap. Once in place, the "lock" clicks as the top is secured onto the base. The design allows for easy removal by simply pulling on the lock with your finger. I 3D printed this locking pin using PETG material for added outdoor durability and flexibility. The print process required no supports, making it a straightforward and effective solution to this common problem.
