Lochan Hakel carved surface only
sketchfab
17 October 2019. Situated in a breathtaking location, one of the most northerly panels on the UK mainland stands tall as a massive erratic boulder precariously perched on a low cliff/bank at the southern edge of Lochan Hakel, mere steps away from a historic crannog. The boulder measures approximately 2.8m x 1.3m x 2.4m in size, with a relatively flat top. Geologists believe the rock to be a garnet gneiss, characterized by an abundance of large (0.5 to 1.0cm) degraded garnets that are remarkably hard and resistant to weathering, resulting in a rugged, knobby surface. Some of these intricate cups are deeply incised with distinct rings, making this carved surface truly one-of-a-kind. This 3D model showcases the beautifully crafted design of the carved surface only.
