The Strati, created by Local Motors, breaks new ground as the world's first vehicle constructed with a 3D printed monocoque chassis. It was initially unveiled through its creation and assembly at the IMTS show in Chicago, September 2014. Now you can download the file used to print the car, scaled down to 1/10th of its original size so it fits on a Replicator 2! The STL file also includes models of wheels, suspension, and drivetrain components, making it possible for users to create an entire replica of the Strati. Due to high demand, a 1/10th scale STL model of the test mule car is included along with separate files for its various parts to make customization and radio-controlled use simpler. Michele Anoé from Italy submitted the design that Local Motors selected as part of their Direct Digital Manufacture Car Design Challenge. Developing this technology was a collaborative effort between Local Motors and various partners including Oak Ridge National Labs, Cincinnati Inc., and Thermwood corporation. Cincinnati engineered and manufactured the BAAM (Big Area Additive Machine) needed for printing the car, while Thermwood contributed their expertise in 5-axis routing for subtractive operations to produce both aesthetic design features and precision surfaces necessary for mounting suspension and drivetrain components. \n Instructions: To achieve high-quality results on a Replicator 2 using standard settings, use 0.20 mm layer thickness and infill at 15%. The print should take about 19 hours when fully loaded with filament. For more insights into the assembly process of this groundbreaking car, click here: http://youtu.be/wm9wRooDcGg.
