Loc-Line check-valve straw for water bottle
thingiverse
This assistive drinking straw is specifically designed for individuals with limited range of motion (ROM) or strength to maintain independence in hydration. It uses Loc-Line to position the straw and attach a bike water bottle holder to a wheelchair. I used to make these straws by hand, using a drill press, special bits for the large Loc-Line fitting, an appropriate sports bottle, and nylon fittings to create the check valve. Now, only a 3D printer is needed to manufacture the check valve and the Loc-Line twist cap, which fits most water and soda bottles with a threaded cap. To assemble this straw, you will also need a 5/16 inch stainless steel ball bearing, food-grade tubing, and Loc-Line to hold the finished straw in place. Use food-grade PLA when printing. Important note: This device is not designed for thick liquids, and many individuals cannot safely use a straw due to the risk of aspiration. Therefore, use of this device should be approved by an appropriate professional.
