With Wheel Animation The London Midland and Scottish Railway's Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 locomotives, famously known as Black Fives, roared onto the scene with William Stanier at the helm between 1934 and 1951. A total of 842 powerful steam engines were built, bearing numbers 4658 to 5499 under British Railways' renumbering scheme, which later became 44658 to 45499. When steam finally faded from Britain's railways in 1968, several of these incredible machines had managed to survive, and an astonishing eighteen Black Fives remain preserved today.
