Lm8uu quick release carriage for Prusa Mendel
thingiverse
To minimize maintenance, I opted for a rapid-change X carriage design that leaves bushings and rods untouched. Despite using PLA, concerns about warped carriages are eased by metal bushing holders' heat dissipation. GregFrost's three-bushing X carriage was chosen, with the two-bushing side near the belt. This modification increases extruder base height by 6mm, but it doesn't interfere with standard hotends (using ParCans design). The adopted solution uses 5.7mm routed plywood and six 8mm x 6mm cylindrical magnets, fixed with cyanoacrylate glue before epoxy treatment. Marine epoxy-soaked plywood offers high resistance. Boltheads secure positions with corresponding holes in upper plates and leave two pass-through bolt holes for extra safety. Three GregFrost's LM8UU holders are epoxied to the carriage without bolting, while zip ties are pre-positioned and tightened before curing. The upper carriage follows GregFrost's standard fixations, with quick connectors added to the extruder for easy replacement of the entire upper plate-extruder block in under a minute.
