The liver sits atop the right side of the abdomen, a massive, meaty organ that tips the scales at roughly three pounds. Its reddish-brown hue gives it a unique appearance, and its rubbery texture can often be detected upon palpation. Due to the protective barrier of the ribcage, the liver typically remains inaccessible to human touch. The liver is divisible into two distinct sections: the right and left lobes, each with their own set of responsibilities. The gallbladder lies beneath it, accompanied by fragments of the pancreas and intestines. Working in tandem, these organs collaborate to digest, absorb, and process ingested nutrients. The gallbladder, a diminutive pouch positioned just below the liver, is entrusted with storing bile produced by its partner organ. As meals approach, the gallbladder remains limp and flat, much like a discarded balloon. Conversely, before mealtime arrives, it expands in size to approximately that of a small pear due to an influx of stored bile.
