Live Catch Mouse Trap for Rao's Jar
thingiverse
This live catch mouse trap is based on Live Catch Mouse Trap by entomophile, which itself is rooted in a 1927 patent. I've completely revamped it to fit snugly inside a Rao's spaghetti sauce 28 oz. widemouth jar. The lid design has been overhauled to replace the original Rao's lid, featuring reinforced paper clip hooks on the door flap and a body that perfectly aligns with the lid, which boasts supports to maintain an upright position at all times. Airholes have also been added for optimal airflow. It can be printed with minimal support structures in place. For assembly instructions using paper clips, please visit entomophile's page: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2815304. The holes are specifically designed to accommodate large-sized paper clips, although regular size clips work just as well. I successfully trapped a mouse with this design; however, it managed to chew its way out in a mere 6 hours, completely demolishing the door. As such, there's a clear limit to how long you can leave an animal confined within this trap. Perhaps it would perform better if printed with a material other than PLA. UPDATE: I recently caught a mouse using this design, but unfortunately, it escaped after 6 hours - not nearly as short a time frame as I had hoped. Consequently, I've improved the design to drastically reduce the likelihood of such an incident occurring again. Additionally, I tweaked the lid fit to ensure a more secure seal.
