** New files see bottom of list Simple live box trap parts are easy to build and design, scalable to suit your needs. Just construct the box to trap whatever you want. Few Hints The lever release is angled towards the back for easier release. The lever release and trap door will need notching, as shown in the picture, to achieve the perfect release tension according to your preference. On the latch, notice a small loop that converts the trap into a remote release. Simply disconnect the side spring with the top spring. It takes just a second. Just hook a line through the guide and attach it to the loop. *** The release is now in place. It's a simple drop-on attachment you add on top of the trap when using the remote release. Even with minimal tension, I found it could snap the trap release arm. In the picture, notice there's no tension on the top spring. To avoid loosening the hinges over time, I added a foam pad about an inch thick. The picture should be enough to build the basic box. The one in the picture is 18 inches long and is a good size for rabbits. The top release and lever are easy to assemble, requiring only a 5mm pin to drop into the slot and through the lever. The lever should move frictionlessly. The top hinge fits into a 1 1/8 inch hole, with the round part oriented down and the slot for the 5mm pin facing up. Assemble it before screwing it down; it will become obvious. If you have any questions about how things go together, just ask, and I'll try to make it easier. I build these traps but can't write an instruction manual worth reading. On the latch and spring anchors, I used high-strength 0.1mm material with 50% infill because the first attempt at the latch resulted in a broken post. So, I made the post bigger and increased the infill. Some new files A. 1/2 hardware cloth accessories are available if you want to build the box out of hardware cloth. B. A notch plate for the door allows you to adjust settings to make it less or more sensitive. C. A new lever with releasable bait trays is available, including one designed for sparrows in a hardware cloth cage.
