Little Whistle
thingiverse
I designed this Little Whistle several years ago, but somehow I never got around to posting it on Thingiverse until now. It's one of my first designs specifically created for 3D printing and has been a valuable tool for me during demonstrations. The Little Whistle prints quickly enough - about eight minutes - that it can finish before an observer finishes watching. This makes it an ideal object to showcase the capabilities of 3D printing, as you can hand someone something they've just seen printed and have it work right away! I've had students receive a whistle at an open house before taking my class, and after graduation, they still had their whistle, so much more impactful than watching several minutes of a lengthy print. So please enjoy this Little Whistle, and when you get the chance to show someone how 3D printing works, I hope you'll print them one (especially kids). Perhaps it will inspire an interest in making for the next generation! Disclaimer - Not suitable for small children; Choking Hazard! Chuck P.S. Remember there's a fine line between a whistle and a hyperventilator! Edit 2-4-16: I noticed that I had uploaded the wrong STL file for the whistle with loop, so I fixed it. I also uploaded the original Little Whistle without a lanyard loop; it will print slightly quicker. Print Settings Printer Brand: LulzBot Printer: Mini Rafts: No Supports: No Infill: n/a Notes: You can print this without supports, making it faster. However, using supports might result in a cleaner loop. I have found better luck printing these on their sides.
