Inspecting this ancient well for its water quality reveals the impressive engineering prowess of the Roman Empire's architects and engineers, who constructed a marvelous aqueduct system known as The imperial aqueduct of S. Lorenzo. This notable work was undertaken by skilled professionals tasked with supplying water to the region. The land that is now called Amaseno has been known since May 1872 under this name; previously it was referred to as San Lorenzo, a country with rich heritage. Located near the source of the river, which shares its name and pays homage to Virgil's memory, is a small but thriving urban center. This river collects water from over a dozen natural springs, several of which caught the attention of Roman hydraulic experts in the second century AD.
