Little Jack Horner

Dr Iskandar has thrown hundreds of bowls in his lifetime. Often, he would develop an imaginative twist to transform what would otherwise have been a predictable bowl. This bowl is named after 18th century English nursery rhyme Little Jack Horner. Little boy Jack sticks his thumb into his Christmas pie and pulls out a plum, making the famous self-congratulatory declaration “what a good boy am I!” This deep, ample bowl, with its thick walls and generous girth, has heft and presence. Spare and restrained, the bowl exudes assurance and self-possession. This vessel in its very simplicity, appears effortless. Yet the exacting skills and experience needed to produce this coherent and flawless form establishes that Dr Iskandar is the irrefutable master of proportion, weight and balance. Texture is provided by the coarse grain of the crank clay used. This bowl also holds a surprise and touch of humour.
