The Little Cottonwood stock cuts through the canyon from its mouth all the way to Snowbird ski resort. This granitic intrusion is a whopping 30.5 to 29 million years old, dating back to the Oligocene era. Primarily composed of granite, quartz monzonite, and granodiorite, it also contains some mafic enclaves, adding to its rich geological makeup.
