Little Chappy Chess Set
thingiverse
I built a chess set around 30 years ago based on my cartoon character, 'Little Chappy'. I created two sets using silicone molds. One set was stolen and the other was inherited from my dad, but then my dog destroyed half of it! So, I needed to use 3D scanning and printing technology. To do that, I designed a free scanner specifically for this purpose - check it out on Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1478072). I scanned the chess set pieces, and here's what happened next. I've included a photo showing the originals alongside the 3D-scanned and printed versions for comparison purposes. I also resized some of the pieces to fit perfectly into the standard 4cm chess square size - no surprises there! The king was naturally the tallest piece. Enjoy! Update: The queen file wasn't scaled properly, so I fixed it and uploaded it again. **Print Settings** - Printer Brand: Printrbot - Printer Model: Simple Black - Rafts: No - Supports: Yes - Resolution: 0.1mm - Infill Percentage: 25% - Notes: Some painting will be necessary to really make this set shine!
