Lithophane Lamp

Lithophane Lamp

thingiverse

I designed a Lithophane lamp for my buddy's bar, where he's known as Renegade Pig. The lamp requires a panel roughly 150mm x 115mm in size. Print the lamp and then measure the inside opening to get the exact size based on your printer's output. The panel is supposed to be friction fit, so it fits snugly into place. To enhance light reflection, I lined the inside of my lamp with aluminum foil, though I'm not sure if it made a difference or not. As an added touch, I color-printed the picture used for the lithophane and glued it to the back of the panel. To get the lamp working, I used several key components that I hot-glued into place. There's a recess for the LED: 1 Watt Cool White LED - Heatsink Mounted: https://www.adafruit.com/product/518 USB Micro-B Breakout Board: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1833 I used a 27ohm resistor, which was based on my usage of parts from adafruit. You'll need to use a resistor of appropriate value (Use http://ledcalc.com with the parameters from your sourced LED, voltage source @ 5V) to ensure your circuit doesn't exceed the max allowed USB current (recommended 100 mA, absolute max 500 mA). To power the lamp, I used a standard Micro USB cable and charger - essentially any Android phone charger will do. The lamp was printed in Tianse Cerulean Blue PLA then primed and painted black, since I didn't have black PLA on hand at the time of printing.
