Lithophane Hanging Potter Planter
thingiverse
Here's a project I've been working on for about 3 weeks now, off and on. I'm not very good at keeping plants alive, but I'm hoping this helps somehow, despite the odds being against me! All lithophanes were printed with Solutech PLA filament in Aqua Blue, Lavender purple, and Real Green. The framing was made using Hatchbox wood filament, while the pot is PETG, which I figured would hold up better to the heat of the LED's against it and the water/soil inside. I used PhotoToMesh to generate a cone litho with two pictures, then used Meshmixer to plane cut it. Since there was a contrast difference, I had to create 2 copies with different min/max thicknesses. The framing was designed using Inventor. The purple looks cooler in person than it does in the picture, which is probably due to my cheap phone camera playing tricks with the colors and making it appear almost too purple. Once all the pieces were printed, I used a combination of gel control super glue and hot glue to assemble them, and then attached a 12v adapter with LED strip lights wrapped around the pot. The top chain spreader file wasn't necessary for this particular plant since it's pretty short, but if you have a tall or bushy plant, the spreader will keep the chains/rope apart so the plant doesn't run into them.
