Lithophane Frame Flat

Lithophane Frame Flat

This version is similar to my previous one titled "Lithophane Frame Curved." It also uses lithophanes made from square aspect pictures. The frame is designed for lithophanes measuring 100mm by 100mm by 3mm. In my experience, printing walls with white filament results in excellent light reflection when illuminated by a strip of six white LED's. This creates a uniform and pleasant glow inside the box. I usually place the LED strip flat on the bottom facing upwards for optimal illumination. My examples feature two LED strips - one white and one blue. In my next version, I plan to add an extra box for a circuit to drive RGB LED's. A hole near the bottom is 8.5 mm in diameter to accommodate a common 12V DC power adapter cord powering the LED strip. If you intend to add text to the top cover, you can opt for hollow or solid raised text. I prefer placing the text on the bottom side of the cover due to my reliance on Cura 14.07. However, with better settings or more advanced slicer software, printing text on the top side could produce sharper and crisper results visible from a distance. I have used 3D Solutech Teal color filament in my examples. This particular shade of teal has an attractive property - it appears blue in low light situations when LED's are off and shifts to green when they're on.
