Lithophane Bottle Lights Adapter: Cheap and easy backlight
thingiverse
This started out as a light source for a Minecraft themed lamp and I've now modified it for use as a lithophane backlight. These 2 metre long strings of LEDs are easy to obtain and very cheap. This adapter suits the common cork style arrangement which is 16.3mm diameter widening out to 22.3mm diameter and is 49mm long. The sequence of photos shows how it all works and the only important thing to remember is to allow a decent length of wire above the "cork" before you start winding the lights around the cylinder. If you don't do this you won't be able to change the batteries. It is a good idea to use a small rubber piece on the bottom of the "cork" to stop it turning in its housing when you switch it on and off. The version shown here is fitted with rubber feet at the corners so that it can be used freestanding, but you could modify the settings on your lithophane base to enable you to superglue it on directly if that is preferable. The only other things you need are four 3mm x 9 or 12mm csk self tapping screws. You can easily modify the position of the LEDs if you are patient and use superglue as required when positioning the wire. I may look at incorporating this adapter into a lithophane box at some stage.
