Litho Box Lamp (LED/USB powered)

Litho Box Lamp (LED/USB powered)

thingiverse

This project is based on the design from Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:97884), but with added enhancements like USB charging capabilities. The required materials include five custom lithophanes (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:229961) and six lithobox parts. You'll need a high-power LED with a star-shaped heatsink, a microUSB breakout for power, M2 bolts and hexnuts, and a resistor of the appropriate value to regulate the current. It's crucial that your LED has a wide beam pattern to ensure even lighting on all lithophanes. Additionally, you'll need a USB cable and charger. An update from Dec 14, 2014 suggests expanding the M2 clearance holes. To print, customize five lithophanes with your preferred image, then print all six lithobox components at 0.1 mm layer thickness. Use brim to prevent warping and print the lithobox-mount and lithobox-clamp with supports, although they may not look pretty due to their internal positioning. It's optional but saves filament to print both lithobox-bottom parts without a bottom layer.
