Liquid-Tite adapter

One of the things that really gets me excited about 3D printing is the ability to create parts right on the spot when they're not readily available or don't even exist yet. For instance, I needed to join together 3/4" poly irrigation tubing and 1/2" liquid-tite electrical conduit. The problem was that I had connectors for each size, but they were incompatible, and I couldn't find any commercially available solution that would work. In the old days, I would have broken out my trusty glue and tape skills and hoped for the best. But now all it took was printing a collar to fit the two connectors together seamlessly. The part itself is one of the simplest shapes you can create in 3D printing. With just four lines of OpenSCAD code, it was done. But what really matters is that it worked exactly as needed and that's the beauty of it. The 3/4" connector and liquid-tite connector are both made of PVC, which is solvent-weldable. So I printed the collar in ABS, which is also solvent-weldable, and then fused everything together with pipe cement. The result is an assembly that's absolutely watertight and strong, and I'm confident it will last for a very long time.
