Liquid-Tite adapter

Liquid-Tite adapter

I enjoy fabricating parts on the spot with 3D printing when they're not available or don't exist at all. For instance, I needed to join 3/4" poly irrigation tubing to 1/2" liquid-tite electrical conduit, but the connectors were incompatible and no suitable adapter was for sale that I knew of. In the past, I would have used glue and tape, hoping for the best with my DIY skills. Now all I had to do was print a collar to fit the two connectors together. The part is one of the simplest shapes you can make in 3D printing - four lines of OpenSCAD code were enough. What I needed exactly, that's the beauty of it. The 3/4" connector and liquid-tite connector are PVC, which can be solvent-welded. So I printed the collar in ABS, another material that can be solvent-welded, and fused everything together with pipe cement. The assembly is absolutely water tight and strong, and I'm confident it will work for a long time.
