Liquid-Fuel Rocket: XLS-191

thingiverse

I designed parts for a small liquid fueled rocket engine using equations from "How to Design, Build and Test Small Liquid-Fuel Rocket Engines." The engine would burn kerosene and LOX at 0.75 lb/sec with a mixture ratio of 2.2 and produce 191 lbs of thrust. Its ISP is an impressive 255 seconds. To bring this engine to life, I plan to create molds from the printed parts and then cast them in metal. This process will allow me to accurately replicate the design and ensure the engine's components are strong enough for its intended use. The combustion chamber is a critical component of this engine, and it's cleverly encapsulated by two cooling jackets that run kerosene along the outside. This innovative design allows for pre-heating of the fuel and cooling of the combustion chamber, making it a vital part of the engine's operation. Although the injector design is still in progress, I'm excited to share my work with you and receive your feedback. The XLS-191 (Experimental Liquid System, 191 lbs thrust) is a small regeneratively cooled rocket engine designed to collect valuable data on liquid rocket engine firings. This information will help me refine my design and potentially lead to the creation of an even larger engine in the future. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or comments about this project. I'd be happy to share more details and learn from your expertise.
