To obtain a STEP file from a "poly - mesh" MAX file, follow these steps using 3ds Max, Fusion 360, and a third-party CAD program: adjust iterations and smoothness based on your PC's RAM, cut the object in half for quicker results, export as OBJ, open Fusion 360, insert the mesh, create a form, convert to T-Splines, then BRep while keeping edges selected, and finally export as STEP.
