I was browsing through eBay when I stumbled upon Lionel's digital rolling billboard, which turned out to be quite pricey. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and create one instead. This DIY project is designed to attach seamlessly to the top of a standard Lionel flat car with stake sides. You have two options for attachment: using 2.6mm self-tapping screws, which can damage the flat car, or employing 2mm x 15 screws with nuts, which I used and found to be completely reversible without causing any harm. When installing the holder, make sure to secure it by placing some tape in the middle section of the car. To achieve this without supports, you'll want to print the design carefully. If needed, a 1mm "shim" can be printed, but I found that a few strips of electrical tape worked perfectly. The holder is designed to fit an Insignia NS-DPF3G display, which unfortunately has been discontinued. However, they're still available on eBay at very affordable prices, and you can even find some new ones on Amazon. This digital billboard was created using Vectary and printed with Simplify 3D at the highest setting. If you appreciate my work, feel free to leave a tip!
