The Medici family built the Boboli Garden in the 16th century right behind the Pitti Palace. This stunning and eclectic Italianesque garden is filled with a wide variety of statues and fountains. The estate had been acquired by the Medici family way back in 1549, when Eleonora di Toledo bought the Palazzo Pitti. Her husband, Duke Cosimo I, brought on board the best landscape designers of his time to create an enormous garden on the sloping terrain behind the palace. The outcome was a refined Italian Renaissance garden with precise geometric patterns.
