The East Harmony Zen Temple lion mother was built in 1910, belonging to the Japanese Soto sect. The pair of stone lions is now located in front of the Kannon Temple's grassy lawn, with the calligraphy "Sensui Arai Yoji" by Taiji Arai (1861-1927), a renowned businessman who operated various industries in Taiwan and was known as the "Finance King." Both male and female lion statues have open mouths, their eyes and mouths are almost level, and their foreheads and faces are filled with wrinkles and bulges, giving them a few strands of bulldog charm.
