The Lion Spool Holder: A Game-Changer for Prusa MMU2 Users The Lion spool holder is a cleverly designed rewinding spool holder specifically tailored to complement the versatile Prusa MMU2. However, I've found that the shipped "buffer" can be quite finicky to load, and many existing rewinding spool holders lack reliability or sturdiness. That's why the Lion spool holder aims to be a straightforward fail-safe solution. By "fail-safe," I mean that when it does fail, it will do so in the least catastrophic way possible. For instance, one project utilized a clutch mechanism, but when it failed, the entire spool holder would jam and get dragged into the printer. Conversely, this kind of failure is not possible with the Lion spool holder because its rack-and-pinion design are loosely coupled, preventing any potential binding. My ultimate goal is to eliminate or significantly reduce the failure rate of the MMU that's caused by spool holding issues – for me, existing spool holders were responsible for about half of all failures.
