Lion in Alicante

Here in Alicante's San Juan, there are two Lions from the Buenavista house that have been here for a while. One of them has just gotten a close-up scan. They were brought to this city in the 1940s by the Prytz family as part of a collection that also includes other sculptures found in Canaleja's park. These lions are exact replicas made by José Bellver for the Congress back in the XIX century, and you can find them now at the Monforte de Valencia. There is another set just like these at Stanley Park in Blackpool, England. They follow a style that originated with a pair of lions found on Señoría de Florencia square, which features a Roman-era statue alongside its Renaissance-age mirror image.
