Giovanni di Balduccio is born in Pisa, and it's unlikely he directly trains with the renowned sculptor Andrea Pisano. Traveling to Milan, he assists in crafting the arc of St. Peter Martyr now housed in the Portinari Chapel within the Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio, a project dated 1339. Additionally, he contributes to the portal of Milan's Brera church and also works on projects in San Casciano in Val di Pesa and the monument of Guarniero in Sarzana.
