The Lion Attacking a Horse sculpture has been a resident of Rome for over 2,000 years, but it looks perfectly at home in the Atrium of the Getty Villa. This massive marble masterpiece is on loan from Rome through January 2013 as part of a new partnership between the Getty Museum and Rome's civic museums. For centuries, this iconic battle scene has inspired artists with its powerful imagery. From a Roman mosaic depicting a lion attacking a wild ass to a French tapestry showing a leopard mauling a zebra in Brazil, both pieces are part of the Getty's collection. The sculpture stands nearly 5 feet tall and over 8 feet long, drawing admirers for centuries. Many replicas were made in bronze on a much smaller scale, especially for Grand Tourists visiting Italy from the late 17th century. This remarkable object is part of "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from around the globe.
