Lintel de Paradela

Lintel de Paradela

This is an old doorway from a traditional building made of brickwork, yet the elements of the door are granite stonework (jambs, brackets and lintel). It corresponds to an old door model, very common in villages in the region, the most striking thing about this one being that above the brackets or corbels rests a figurative lintel very enigmatic. The motives represented, at an uncertain date, are among the strangest. In the central part appears a Greek cross (of equal arms), to the right appears the representation of a bovid (cow or ox) and to the left appears the representation of a inverted half moon, the schematization of three eight-pointed stars and one five-pointed star (pentagram or pentacle). On the jambs, and on one of the brackets, there are more representations of crosses. In this case, Latin ones.
