Bird Jaguar looms over a captured noble, his nose and cheek beaded with sweat droplets - proof that he's already bled. Eight days later, when his son Shield Jaguar II arrived, Bird Jaguar and another wife perform a ritual bloodletting to mark the occasion. Seventy-five days after that, on May 3rd AD 752, Bird Jaguar officially takes the throne, an event that comes only after noble prisoners are captured and a male heir is born.
