Linkable Floor Cable Protector

Linkable Floor Cable Protector

thingiverse

A cable protector for cables laid on the floor was designed. This was specifically created for flat HDMI and VGA cables laid between a gaming computer and a projector. The segments allow the protector to follow a curved path along the floor. A low profile gives additional safety from customizability to just fit the cables perfectly in place. Use tape to hold the cable firmly in position. Double-sided carpet tape can be used on the floor-side to securely hold the protector to the floor. Most flat cables will take a 3 mm height on a hardwood floor. The customizer defaults are for a standard round cable core of 13 mm (0.5"). Carpeted floors stress the cable and protector more due to the substrate flex. You can minimize breakage of the bridge and cable by using a greater attack angle, looser fit, and a narrower, thicker bridge. For round cables, Attack angle = 30 Channel height = 13 Channel width = 13 Wall = 2 // equivalent to bridge thickness For flat cables, Attack angle = 12 Channel height = 3 Channel width = 20 Wall = 2 // equivalent to bridge thickness The protector is supplied in three different versions. A customizer selector, CM_link.scad, shows proper assembly in the both setting. The other two settings allow parts to be made singly for small bed printers. Making channels wider than the cable allows for the protector to curve along the floor. An attack angle of less than or equal to 12 degrees is recommended for those with disabilities (ADA compliant). This recommendation is relaxed for height changes of less than 12 mm outdoors. There is no specific recommendation for indoor uses. Many commercial cable protectors use attack angles greater than 20 degrees to achieve heights of 16 mm or more. Customizer notes: Some settings break the model. Wide channel widths, high channel heights and low attack angles are not compatible. No bound checking is implemented. You will notice that on low attack angles the customizer displays a very tiny object. The underlying, masked out cylinder is quite large. The printed size may also be quite large. Like an iceberg, you only see the upper 10%!
