Linear Taper

This project involves a small DC motor driving a belt to move a slider, with an internal carbon strip of 10k Ohms resistance. The slider makes contact with this strip, altering its resistance as it moves. By measuring this resistance change, the position of the slider can be calculated. This simple yet useful device costs around £10 in the UK; however, building one now is possible once you understand the concept!
