Linear bearing for square tube - using skateboard bearings
grabcad
This is my design for a budget-friendly yet robust linear bearing tailored specifically to metal square tubes - aluminum or steel. By adjusting the size of the tube, type of bearings, bolts, and thickness of the side plates, you can modify this design to suit your unique needs. I opted for 3/4" (18.9mm) aluminum square tubing, 8x16x5mm bearings, and M8 bolts that fit snugly within the 8mm ID bearings, along with 5mm thick plywood for the side plates. I didn't require extensive testing on my 3018 CNC machine as everything assembled seamlessly together. The linear bearing glided smoothly along the tube with minimal noticeable play when manually inspected. For heavier-duty applications like CNC machines and plasma cutters, consider cutting the side plate from harder materials such as aluminum or steel for added sturdiness.
