Linear 18, 10-24 Thread

Human: I've got another rickety, loud, hodgepodge contraption here that actually works. It was too big a board on the video, she was having trouble. The linear should have plenty of applications in small robotics, RC or shutting a small vent door in your chicken coop on a cold night using an Arduino board and temp sensor. This Linear uses the DF Robot SER0037 Continuous Rotation Micro Servo (Jameco 2213448, $8.95) and 10-24 All Threaded Rod from the hardware store. The servo gear attaches to the servo with a small cross servo arm and screws that come with the servo. A continuous rotation servo is programmed by time and speed of the servo, not by the number of servo rotations. It's more suited for use with a push button type setup or micro switch shut off when it reaches its end point. It uses 10-24 All Threaded Rod with a couple 10-24 nuts pushed into the sides of the spool. The spool spins the Machine screw nuts on the rod and moves the gear cases. The rod end should be anchored to prevent turning, but it will push or pull from either the cases or the rod end. Using 10-24 all thread gives a travel of .0625" per servo rotation, but you can have the rod as long as you want! If you need more power, I'm sure using 10-32 nuts and rod would work just as easily, giving you a .0375" rod travel per servo rotation. Just don't expect it to be as fast. The nuts should push against the cylinder in the cases and must be filed down to fit how far they are pushed into the spool. If the cases are tightened too much and it quits moving, file more. I'm planning on doing a series of these with different size servos and rods for bigger jobs, so stay tuned. The goal is to create cheap, easy, and adjustable ways to do things or move things. You'll be able to find uses in various areas. YouTube Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-A-YjTdik0
