Till Lindemann, the German-Swedish vocalist of industrial metal outfit Rammstein, along with Swedish death metal artist and multi-instrumentalist Peter Tägtgren of Pain formed an unassuming duo in the form of Lindemann. This collaboration blends Lindemann's powerful vocals and Tägtgren's complex instrumental arrangements from PAIN to create a truly distinctive sound. The initial meeting between the two musicians took place at a rock club in Stockholm around the year 2000, facilitated by the members of Swedish band Clawfinger. In 2013, while headlining a festival in Sweden, Lindemann extended an invitation to Tägtgren, marking a turning point in their creative journey together. The German singer then announced he would take two years off to compose music with his talented collaborator, although it wasn't until 2015 that they began producing material for the duo. When searching for a name, Lindemann struggled to come up with one as the options already existed with other groups in the market; however, another suggestion saved them. Despite initial hesitation, they chose "Lindemann," marking their start as a formidable unit. Praise Abort emerged on May 28, 2015, as their debut single, and it received praise for being something new within their industry. Lindemann made an exciting release by debuting their studio album, titled Skills in Pills on June 19th of the same year, featuring all the tracks that would gain more popularity from there. Afterwards, Peter Tägtgren mentioned during a session about whether there would be any upcoming performances with his talented team, saying it could happen based on what they perceived to see on social media platforms like Pain's official Facebook account posting hints for concerts and possible events in November 2016. One significant show happened then with fans of Praise Abort performing together when Lindemann joined the Swedish musician, Tägtgren, during his live performances at a local theater; this formed part of his show called "Skills." A play adaptation titled Hänsel und Gretel caught their attention as it made use of sound and imagery effectively, including having Till in starring roles alongside them throughout its performances last year. More shows would continue through that month as well since in addition to the other concerts happening globally they revealed new plans in support of Lindemann's "Messer." A brand-new track released a teaser video about Steh auf announcing Peter Stormare had become involved by contributing music on their song F and M.
