Lebanon's rich history is evident in its cultural heritage, which encompasses a wide range of artistic movements and styles across various periods. This throne, a standout example from the Hellenistic Period, boasts highly detailed spinxes on either side of the seat, making it a prime specimen of that era. The throne originates from a site in Byblos, Lebanon's largest city within the Mount Lebanon Governate. Archaeologists believe this area was first inhabited between 8800 and 7000 BC, while fragments attributed to Sanchuniathon, a pre-Homeric Phoenician priest whose existence is shrouded in legend, suggest that Cronus, a god of immense power, built Byblos as the first city in Phoenicia.
