Funerary monuments like these were widely found on Cyprus from the Late Hellenistic era to the Roman period. Each was engraved with a standard farewell message addressing the deceased directly in the vocative form. Sometimes, an additional comment would be added, such as "no one lives forever." In this instance, the inscription in Greek is straightforward: "Good Olympianos, goodbye." Above the inscription stands a wreath adorned with pine cones and fruit that frame a plain circular disk on which a portrait of the deceased may have been painted.
