Lime/linden pollen
sketchfab
Pollen from small-leaved lime (Tilia cordata, Malvaceae) is a key component in the study of ancient forests.\nResearch on fossil pollen reveals that lime trees were once prominent members of primary forests across northern and central Europe, but their numbers began to decline around 6,000 years ago. The presence of lime tree stands is still considered an indicator of Britain's ancient woodland heritage.\nDetailed characteristics of Tilia cordata pollen are described in the technical manual from PalDat (Halbritter, 2017): medium-sized pollen grains are oblate or cup-shaped and circular in polar view, featuring three pores and a reticulate exine with perforations.
