LiL STOOL

I designed a piece of furniture that's 100% 3D printed and easy to print, which means no assembly and no raft & support material. I thought it would be fun to create a piece for small children, inspired by the cute proportions and soft look of IKEA's MAMMUT series designed by M Kjelstrup & A Östgaard. The MAMMUT children's stool was my benchmark; I matched its overall height (11 3/4") to fit my 3D printer with a maximum build height of 12". Many makers can now easily print full-scale, single-part designs like mine due to larger 3D printers. For the design, I aimed to create a piece that fits within the MAMMUT series but avoids its familiar shapes. I chose a pentagon shape and softened its five points to make it friendly for children to sit on, hold, or carry. To add more fun and character, I twisted the body into a spiral look. I used bright, light blue filament in my 3D print, which complements the MAMMUT series color palette. I also rendered the LiL STOOL in other playful colors to showcase its potential for fun. After printing the LiL STOOL, I took it to IKEA and photographed it with the MAMMUT series. The LiL STOOL looked adorable next to other small furniture pieces, and its design fit perfectly within the family.
