My concept for underrun truck protection emphasizes minimal weight and affordable manufacturing costs. The sheet metal design offers adequate rigidity while maintaining straightforward production. This assembly comprises just three distinct parts, with laser-cut 10mm steel yellow components and 30mm thick red components waterjet-cut for greater strength. Welding unites the whole structure. The total weight is 44.1 kg. In load cases P1, P2, and P3, the maximum VM stress is 348.7 MPa, 353.1 MPa, and 353.4 MPa, respectively, with corresponding deformations of 9.182 mm, 2.786 mm, and 2.315 mm. To analyze the design, I utilized Autodesk Inventor 2014's built-in FEA plugin. However, I encountered issues with importing new design iterations in SimScale, a common issue with similar software on the market that significantly increases analysis setup time. As for aesthetics, the design features a bright yellow color.
