LightPaintings
grabcad
This design draws inspiration from renowned art pieces, combining everyday objects with stunning images through a generative algorithm. The base shape is parametric, allowing users to alter its form as desired. The shell's thickness can be adjusted, creating striking light effects using translucent plastic (minimum 0.4 mm). However, the algorithm assists in resizing without issues, although it's unclear if extremely thin shells will withstand stress or printing. Light diffusion eliminates sharp shadows, while numerous patterns offer flexibility. Assembly is simple, requiring only printing and mounting on a table or hanging holder; smoothing post-print enhances results. The design is entirely 3D printable, suitable for extrusion with ABS plastic that can handle moderate heat levels. The creator is studying architecture at the University of Florence's Department of Design, Dynamics and Autonomy (DDA).
