This discharge can produce a wide range of electromagnetic radiation, from hot plasma created by rapidly moving electrons to brilliant flashes of visible light in the form of black-body radiation. Dynamic energy produces thunder, a sound that comes from the shock wave which develops as gases near the discharge experience a sudden increase in pressure.
