Archaeologists have recreated three-dimensional elements of a staircase uncovered at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station using fragments of wrought iron found during digs and documented with precise light scanning techniques. By comparing these fragments to a model of a scaffolded staircase, researchers can fit them together to reveal missing parts and functional details. The iron steps originated from the excavated remains of a brick tower lighthouse that dated back to around 1848. Our archaeological excavation uncovered a significant portion of a collapsed wall as well as numerous intact features and artifacts still in their original positions on the site. We employed a phase shift hybrid instrument to document our findings and a structured light scanner to record the artifacts we recovered from the dig at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
