Lighted Curio Base
thingiverse
This project began with a wooden base for an acrylic lion figure which had an ugly lighted wooden base. When the light burned out, the owner discovered blue LED candelabra night-lite bulbs that were too good to use on the old base. Instead, he printed a new base in Octave glow-in-the-dark ABS. The design of the base had to accommodate the lamp socket, which has metal spring 'wings' on the sides that compress and hold it in place when inserted into a one inch hole. Additionally, the channel in the bottom of the base features 'bumps' to help hold the AC wire in place. For finishing the print, the owner tried acetone vapor for the first time, using a Presto model 06006 deep fryer as described on the Solidoodle forum. This method left a remarkable finish on the part.
